REPORT
Despite an early (and unessessary) yellow card, Eccles dominated the possesion and territory to put the visitors under pressure for the opening 25 minutes. Although pinned inside their 22, Glossop soaked it up without conceeding any points and as the rain commenced at the half hour mark the visitors won a penalty near halfway and kicked to touch. The line out resulted in a forwards drive and a kick for their backs to run on to giving them the opening score in the corner, against the run of play. Eccles, attempted to respond but were unable to threaten the Glossop line and play remained mostly in midfield. Eccles are sloppy in posession and hand advantage to a strong Glossop pack. The visitors earn another penalty scrum and score a 2nd try from only their 2nd attack in the same right corner.
The half time break does not reinvigorate Eccles' attacking innovation and it is Glossop who proceeed to dominate the second half. Adam Christey has a standout performance winning all his one-on-ones contests; good spirit and commitment is shown throughout from Eccles but are unable to find a way to secure points against determined physical opposition. The visitors pull away, scoring 3 second half tries to take the points and earn themselves promotion alongside league leaders Manchester, last week's victors at Gorton Street.
After a very promising start, it's been a punishing end to the season for Eccles. The game was probably a fair reflection of the campaign in Level 7 as a whole, with the team runnning out of steam and left regretting not taking full advantage of thier early opportunites.
