Eccles RFC
Didsbury Toc H RFC

Eccles Ladies v Didsbury Toc H Ladies

REPORT

From the kick-off, Eccles started strong with good tackling and big hits, resulting in Didsbury dropped balls. A great steal from Rowanne and good passing put pressure on Didsbury resulting in an Eccles penalty. Good attack from this led to the ball being held up on the line. From the scrum, good pressure and running lines from the Eccles Ladies lead to the first try of the day with Mikayla going over the line (conv. missed). Excellent carries from Leah, Mikayla and Mollie Y put pressure on the Didsbury line forcing them back. Even when Didsbury held the ball, impressive line speed from Eccles ensured not much ground was made. Not long after the 2nd try came from Rowanne (conv. missed). Big tackles and good running from Jess W, and a steal from Lauren ensured possession stayed with Eccles for most of the first half. Passes out wide to Mikayla and Rowanne allowed Rowanne to go over the line just left of the posts for her 2nd try of the day (conv missed). Pressure on the Didsbury line from Mollie L, Lianne and Mollie Y, allowed the half to end showing Eccles’ dominance.

HT 15-0.

Due to injuries the 2nd half started with Eccles down to 14, with periods of only 13 on the pitch due to varying injuries. This allowed Didsbury to get back into the game, with a run down their right wing scoring under the posts (conv.). A period of messy play from both teams meant no real ground was made on either part. Reduced Eccles numbers showed as pressure from Didsbury, especially from the forwards pushed Eccles back, a break from them nearly resulting in a try but for a great tackle from Mikayla. Another try eventually came from Didsbury scoring left of the posts (conv.). Another push from Eccles’ defence with big hits from Siobhan, Emily and LJ pushed Didsbury back but a kick and chase led to a 3rd Didsbury try. (conv. missed). Even though the 2nd half was ruled by Didsbury dominance due to extra players, Eccles led a new wave of attack. A ball held up on the line, an Eccles scrum, and a fantastic full-length sprint of the pitch from Rowanne, led to her 3rd try of the day. (conv. missed), and a thrilling win for the team.

FT 20-19.

Although marred by injuries, a fantastic team effort and Eccles’ 1st victory of the season promises great things from the team, with new players and U18’s debuted in the team.
