After recent losses Eccles 2XV welcomed Leigh 2XV to Gorton Street on Saturday looking for a return to form and a win.
Eccles started on top but failed to find an end product. Freddie Oakey missed an early penalty before slotting one home from 40m just before the break.
HT 3-0
Second half Leigh started to come into the game with their number 10 implementing a strong kicking game which gained them a line out 5 metres from the Eccles line.
The big Leigh side drove through their forwards using pick and go’s for their 8 to score a try and thier fly half adding the extras. 3-7
The Eccles side did not lie down and continued to force penalties with Freddie converting another. 6-7
Leigh continued to apply pressure to the Eccles defence scoring once more through strong forward play; converted. 6-14
Eccles did not respond and struggled to mount any real pressure on the Leigh defence, despite the visitors being reduced to 14 after receiving a yellow 10 minutes from time.
The Leigh 11 intercepted a loose ball and ran it in from the half way line for the final score of the match.
