An Emphatic Victory.
Match Report
Another cold and damp morning welcomed a depleted Dukinfield to Gorton St. Several injuries reduced them to 13 players, but we arranged to loan some lads so everyone could enjoy a full game.
Eccles started brightly, but struggled to capitalise on early possession, though after 15 minutes Sam spotted some space on the wing and ran from deep, stepping 3 players to score. Then Dukinfield won a penalty in front of the posts, making it 5-3.
Dukinfield knocked-on catching the restart kick. Louie did a ‘pick and go’ from the back of the scrum, running over for 10-3.
10 minutes later Dukinfield won a scrum 15m from their line. Unfortunately, the put-in bounced through the tunnel off their prop. Harry at flanker took the gifted ball and scored, Sam converting for 17-3.
At Half time we switched the loaned players of Louis and Henry for Adam and Luke F.
Dukinfield again fumbled the restart catch, and from the scrum the ball went through the backs to Louis who scored, with Ethan converting for 24-3. A few minutes later and another scrum won. Ethan found Euan, who ran from deep and drew the defenders before feeding Louis who ran across for his second, Ethan converting to make it 31-3.
Henry then took a weaving run up the right wing before feeding Sam for his second, 36-3. After the restart Duncan, with a speed that often surprises us, charged from the halfway line for a try, 41-3.
Next, Louis ran the ball from inside our half for his third, Ethan converting for 48-3. Louie then drove across for his second, 55-3. A few minutes later Thomas intercepted a pass on their 22, running under the posts before Ethan made his 5th conversion for 62-3.
To save any further demoralisation of the opponents, Jeff the Ref blew for the match early. Dukinfield had played honourably, and there was nothing to be gained from lording it over an under-strength team.
