Following a recruitment process, we are pleased to confirm the appointment of William Bird as Eccles RFC Women's Head Coach.
Will, who recently completed his MsC in Performance Coaching and is now embarking on a PhD in Sport Science at Manchester Metropolitan University, joins the club with an impressive pedigree having previously coached at Stafford RUFC, Cirencester RFC, the Royal Agricultural University and was Performance Rugby Coach for Hartpury University Women, Gloucester until summer 2026.
The Eccles Ladies will be celebrating their 30th anniversary next year and the club are looking forward to supporting Will with his plans to develop the potential of the playing squad to regain the higher levels of performance required to achieve a resurgence of the team.
Speaking about his appointment Will said “The second I walked onto the club grounds I felt like I belonged, after meeting the women and members of the club I had a feeling something big is building here and I wanted to be a part of that. Everyone here wants the very best for every single individual and I can see already the quality of coaching and the facilities available is a great foundation to take us to the next level. I feel this next chapter here is part of a much bigger picture and a great opportunity to impact the community and build an environment that people want to be part of. I am in no doubt that the Eccles women’s side here will achieve big things, we know where we want to be and we will stop at nothing to get there. Any players here now or arriving in the future will experience an environment that can truly get the best out of them as a rugby player and as a person”.
