The Duke of Edinburgh Award programme is the world leading achievement for young people - recognised by employers and universities, it rewards sustained commitment to personal development over a period of time.
Eccles RFC were the first rugby club in the country to run the DofE scheme and since 2011, 48 of our young people have achieved the prestigious Gold Award, 71 have achieved Silver and 160 have achieved Bronze. Our remarkable success, above the National pass average, is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our participants and our DofE volunteer leaders.
In many ways the DofE Award is the perfect partner for rugby because identifies determined individuals with staying power. The club is very proud of its 13-year association with the DofE Award and believes in its ethos of inspiring an adventurous spirit in young people, helping them to gain skills, experience, confidence and resilience to successfully overcome challenges and to keep going to reach goals.
However, without new, enthusiastic adult volunteers supporting our existing leader team, Eccles RFC will be unable to keep our DofE legacy going.
We need people who love the outdoors and who would like to guide, encourage and inspire young people with things like route planning, walks and map reading or helping with fund raising in the community. Not all activities require you to be physically fit but if you think that you have some skills that can be utilised for a few hours a month your help would be greatly appreciated.

If no one steps up to help, regrettably, the club will have to stop the DofE programme in January 2025.
