U8s
Eccles v Liverpool Collegiate
Sunday saw Eccles U8s entertain Liverpool Collegiate with entertain being the operative word. 10 Liverpool boys and girls came to face 19 of our little band of warriors and were given a lesson in how to pass the ball quickly and accurately to every team member before scoring lots of trys.
Don't get me wrong. Liverpool gave as good as they got with some excellent tagging and scoring of their own, which led to an excellent morning of rugby. Because of the mismatched number it allowed the coaching team to spit the players and work on some much needed skills and if you could tear your eyes away from the games you would have seen that we were working on passing in the game and support play, not just looking for the score.
I think you will all agree if you have watched the video that some of that knowledge that was passed to the boys by the coaches reflected in the games . One of the highlights of my day was when the Liverpool coach came across shook my hand and said 'What a great bunch of guys you have and so well behaved ' I must admit my chest filled with pride. Well done Eccles U8s you are a credit to your club and your mum's and dad's.

U12s
Eccles v Liverpool Collegiate
We were treated to a break in the rain for the U12's match at home against a big Liverpool side. The game was another close contest with tries coming in from both sides from the off, with plenty of tackles and plenty of runs. With 12 men we had 3 replacements. Every one of them wanted to start so it was hard choosing the first players for the bench.
Seb returned after a few weeks off after suffering a concussion on the park with his mate. It certainly didn't put him off his rugby, he was properly getting stuck in and made an impressive run from his own half only being stopped 5 yards from Liverpools try line. The lads were absolutely buzzing for him (and the coaches).
Of late the boys have been improving each week in areas where they have dropped off. The defensive line and offloading the ball this week was bang on with Owen proving he can lead the way in both, inspiring the other lads to follow suit along with his tackles, on any man, of any size. There were a couple of injuries throughout the game, Billy and Harrison took a knock each, Owen was down after a head bang and Monty had to be carried off with a hip injury.
Fair play to him he couldn't come back on but he stayed til the end and cheered the lads on from the touch line.
Jamie F also complained about hurting his arm, as he fought off several Liverpool players to score several tries. Juggernauts don't get injured!
Liverpool kept us busy and kept a good momentum going, with their shirt no. 5 breaking away more than once to keep adding to their try tally. Harry and Jamie B impressed with their commitment to tackles slowing Liverpool down and Edward worked very well with Fin to keep our own try tally loaded up.
Edward continued to impress with his commitment, being involved in most tackles and his try count - earning him Coaches' Player. Seb won Players player for his blinding return (one of the votes for him was by himself but we let that one slide)! Well done boys on another win.
