The club is sad to announce the death of Allan Chettoe following a long battle with cancer.
Allan joined the club in the early 80’s playing hooker for many years before becoming second, third and fourth team captain, club referee and then combining that with Fixture Secretary from 1992 to 2005.
Always calm and never flustered Allan could be negotiating pool games long into Friday night and as late as Saturday mornings until he’d achieved a fair arrangement. The Eccles captains would be oblivious to this until Allan confirmed the fixture, as though it had been arranged since the Wednesday.
Allan was an extremely well respected, community minded member of the Club. Allan was also a keen social member, a regular tourist who even referreed a fixture on an Eccles tour to Portugal with both sons Lee and Chris playing that game as active members of the club.
The family tradition of playing for the club continues today with Granddaughter Francesca playing in the mins and juniors section for the club making her a third generation of Chettoe’s representing for the club.
Allan's funeral will take place at Agecroft Crematorium at 12:00 om Monday 3 August, followed by a celebration at Moorside Social, Swinton.
Our thoughts are with Carole, Sasha, Lee and Chris during this difficult time.
