In emerging from the COVID pandemic, two things have become clear.

Not only is the North West community Rugby missing lots of players, it's also desperately short of Referees.

The RFU and our local authorities are actively encouraging qualified referees to return to the game and are looking to recruit and train new match officials.

At Eccles RFC we want to play our part to help address this urgent situation.

Refereeing can be a flexible arrangement that can make a positive difference to the quality of experience for players at our club, ensuring that local games can go ahead each week. It can also be personally rewarding activity, developing your own knowledge and interpersonal skills (plus no one can argue with you and you get bought beer after the game!)

Senior, Colts and Junior rugby can not take place unless someone is willing to put themselves in the middle and take up the whistle. Referees play a pivotal role in the safety and enjoyment of Rugby and now, more than ever, we need them.  Even if you can only do one game a month, it would be a great benefit to your club and much appreciated.

Here are some links to wet your whistle:

I WANT TO BE A QUALIFIED WHISTLE BLOWER

The England Rugby Referee Award (ERRA) is the entry point course for the 15-a-side game and is ideal for those who want to facilitate Sunday age-grade games as it provides the knowledge, skills and attributes to effectively referee both young players and adults. The course only requires you to be available for one Sunday in the Autumn and a second day next June, with a series of webinars in between. Participants will get access to digital resources to support their refereeing and join a monthly online community of practice for additional support.
The cost of the course is £75 which will be reimbursed by the club on completion.
Prior to booking onto the course, all attendees must complete the RFU online Headcase module https://bit.ly/HEADCASE (This can take up to 48 hours to appear on your GMS record)

There are places still available at these two upcoming ERRA courses:

Chester RUFC, Sun 14 Nov 2021 (Day 2 June 19 2022) BOOK COURSE

Sedgley Park Tigers RUFC, Sun 28 Nov 2021 (Day 2 June 26 2022) BOOK COURSE
