The club is delighted to announce and confirm Jack Burdon as Club Captain for the 2026/27 Season.
In offering warm congratulations and good luck to Big Jack on his appointment, the club would also like to extend sincere thanks to Fin Cox, for his dedication, commitment and sterling service as Club Captain for the past three seasons. A homegrown hooker, Fin joined Eccles at five years old and progressed through our Mini & Junior ranks to become Senior Colts Captain before making his Senior debut in 2018/19.
Speaking of his decision to step down this summer Fin commented “I’ve been at Eccles my whole life, and having the opportunity to captain this club over the last three years has been a real honour. We’ve shared some incredible moments over the past few seasons, with our promotion to Level 6 being one that will always stand out. I’m confident that, as a club, we have everything it takes to get back there in the near future. I’m equally confident knowing that Big Jack will be taking over as captain next season. Over the years he’s played for Eccles, he’s embodied everything it means to represent this club, and I know he’ll do a fantastic job in his new role. I wish him every success. I’d like to thank Sam Simpson for the trust he placed in me, the committee for their continued support of the men’s section, and all the players for making my job as captain as enjoyable and straightforward as it could be. I’m looking forward to the season ahead and can’t wait to see what this group can achieve.”
In response to his appointment, Jack commented “I’m both honoured and excited to be given the opportunity to be Club and First Team Captain for the upcoming season. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Fin for everything he’s done over the past few years. He has been an exceptional leader both on and off the pitch throughout my time at the club. He’s dedicated countless hours to making sure the men’s section is as strong as it can be, while also strengthening relationships with the women’s, mini and junior sections. That’s something I’m determined to continue and build on. I’ll certainly be leaning on his advice and experience as he continues to represent the club he’s grown up with.”
