Eccles RFC is a community club with 124 years of history in cultivating Home Grown talent. However, our club is located in a region with strong competition from Rugby League and Football and as such, to ensure our continued future growth, we must compete to attract new players and members.
Our ‘Ecclesathlon’ programme of activity during lockdown provided a clear picture of the steps we needed to take to safeguard a successful emergence from the COVID restrictions.

During the summer the club began the search for an employed Community Rugby Coach - a highly motivated, committed individual who had the ability to deliver results and who believed in the values of Rugby Union and the power of sport to change lives.

Responsibilities of the CRC include planning and delivering a programme of activity in local Schools, with the specific objective of improving links and recruiting players. The role also involves delivering high quality player-centred training sessions, sports camps, and community festivals here at the club, and delivering coaching CPD for our Mini & Junior section.

After an extensive interview process the club shortlisted 3 candidates and appointed James Wright to the vacant CRC position. James began work in his new role in a part-time capacity at the beginning of September and has already delivered his first of 10 CPD sessions to 20 of our Eccles M&J coaches.

Assisting James in his club CRC role is 1XV team mate and coach Dan Aspinall, another Homegrown product of the Eccles RFC Junior and colts rugby stable.

James and Dan are now delivering weekly high quality Rugby sessions at local schools including Irlam and Caddishead Academy, Salford City Academy, The Lowry Academy, St Patricks RC High School, St Ambrose Barlow RC High School and Moorside High School. We are already beginning to see some early green shoots of success with new players arriving for many of our junior teams in the past month.

If your child attends one of these schools the club would certainly appreciate your positive feedback to the school and your encouragement for new players and parents to come down and give rugby a try at Eccles RFC.  If parents have children attending schools not identified above, then please collect some contact information from the P.E teacher so we can attempt to make arrangments for our CRC to deliver rugby coaching sessions in the near future.
If prospective parents have any questions about facilities, coaching, training, playing or membership at Eccles RFC please email our Mini & Junior Chair Daniel Nicholls danielnicholls@ecclesrfc.org.uk  Thank you.
