Christmas is coming and the club is preparing for its annual festive gatherings.

The Government ‘Plan B’ announcement comes into force today, 10 December.  Face coverings are now required by law on public transport, in taxis and in indoor public places, such as community centres, sports venues and places of worship.

However, you are NOT legally required to wear a face covering in hospitality settings such as restaurants and pubs (because it is not practical to keep removing face coverings to eat or drink) or in nightclubs or gyms (because it is not recommended to wear one while exercising or during physical activity) or whilst singing.

So our planned Christmas events will go ahead, and we will be ENCOURAGING BUT NOT ENFORCING the wearing of masks inside the clubhouse, when not drinking or eating.

It is easy to ridicule these rules but we have a sincere desire to keep our members and visitors safe and we ask everyone visiting the club to be reasonable, responsible, respectful and considerate. Nobody wants confrontation. It’s Christmas, the season of good will.

COVID-19 will be a feature of our lives for the foreseeable future, so we need to manage the risk to ourselves and others. The virus is spread by airborne transmission and the risk of inhaling infectious particles is higher in crowded, enclosed spaces.

So, in line with the official advice, the club will be increasing ventilation during busy periods by letting fresh air in. Naturally, this will mean a temporary temperature drop from time to time but please resist the temptation to complain to our bar & kitchen volunteers.  The club will also continue to provide hand sanitiser and will reinstall screens at the bar and coffee shop.

There are no indoor capacity limits, however, the club may put in place some common sense restrictions for enclosed areas.

There are no restrictions on organised events outdoors for participants or spectators.

There are no changes to playing or training arrangements. All Eccles RFC players and team personnel should continue to complete a pro-active declaration before arrival at the club.

If you are unwell, or have tested positive, or are living with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, please do not come to the club.

Please consider your fellow members and mask up if the clubhouse is crowded. Thank you for your support.
