Eccles RFC offers its congratulations to Leigh Leopards Women, Molly Young, Rhianna Burke and Eleanor Dainty who claimed a hard fought 22-18 victory over London Broncos in a fiercely contested National Championship Final last Sunday. As National Champions, Leigh Leopards now have the opportunity to earn promotion to the Bet Fred Womens Super League if they beat Featherstone Rovers in the Women’s Grand Final, at St Helens, this Sunday 6th October, 2pm KO.
Centres Molly and Rhianna joined Leigh Leopards in 2022 and prop forward Eleanor joined in 2023. All three women are former Eccles Juniors and Ladies, having began their rugby careers at Eccles playing in the same team as Molly Wild who represented Lancashire and North of England, and Alicia Calton and Hollie Bawden, who are now both playing professionals with Sale Sharks Women.
146 years ago, Leigh's first ever game was played against Eccles in October 1878. Rugby has come a long way since then and we wish the girls, their team and the club the very best of luck in finishing their spectacular season in style and achieving their Super League ambitions.
