The club sends sincere wishes for a speedy and full recovery to Mark Baines, who is in ICU at Wythenshawe hospital following his lung transplant operation in the early hours of yesterday.

Following two previous unviable attempts, Mark was called back to hospital on Friday and taken into Theatre. He is currently on a ventilator following his 8-hour surgery. Consultants have intimated if his progress continues sedation may be reduced today. It is very early days on the road to his recovery from Thoracic Surgery which is likely to involve 8 weeks in hospital, but if successful, this transplant will improve Mark's quality of life immeasurably.
Mark was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis about 6 years ago, a lung disease that causes a thickening and scaring of lung tissue, preventing the lungs from working properly, making beathing difficult and leaving the sufferer progressively short of breath.
Mark is long-serving member of the committee and Chairman of the club’s Duke of Edinburgh Award programme. Mark first began his volunteer involvement with the DofE in the early days of its inception back in 2011, when his son Sean’s team team began their Bronze award journey and he committed to take on the role of chair as the initiative grew in size and required administration and leadership - just two of Mark's many qualities.
Mark has many friends at the club and we have him in our thoughts and wish him all the very best for a full return to good health. Get strong Mark!
(update: Sunday 2130 Mark is awake and has sent thanks for all the messages of support)
