Eccles RFC is delighted to announce the recruitment of Leon Simpson for the new season.

Leon began his rugby as a Junior at Eccles, before selection for Sale Sharks Academy and representative honours for Lancashire U18s, North of England U18s, and Lancashire U20s provided him with the opportunity to play in the Semi-Professional National League 2 (level 4) for Sedgley Park Tigers.
Leon had this to say on his rugby career to date:
"From the age of seven, I played my rugby at Eccles until leaving to join Kirkham Grammar at the age of 16. I played as a Junior Colt at Eccles for one season and then aged 17, I departed to play for Rossendale RUFC in National League 3 for a season, followed by 2 years at Sedgley Tigers in National 2. Even though I have spent 4 years playing my rugby at a higher level,  I have always found myself being drawn back to my Eccles roots. Whether I was playing on a Saturday at Kirkham and returning to play Colts on a Sunday, or playing for Rossendale and Sedgley and then heading back to Gorton Street to spend time with the Navy and White family, there has always been something deep within me that considers Eccles my home.
I've met some great people in my time away and made friends for life, but I think I speak for all the members at Eccles when I say we are blessed to have such a great spirit within the club and that’s something I haven’t been able to find elsewhere. I can’t wait to get back to playing in the Navy and White hooped shirt again along side the rest of the boys, pushing with the team to take Eccles back to the glory days, playing an expansive game and having a good time doing so.”
Director of Rugby and Head Coach Sam Simpson had this to say on the recruitment:

"Where do I begin in writing this! Firstly, I'd like to welcome Leon back to Gorton Street but in all honesty, it's never felt like he's left the place. As DOR at the club I'm extremley excited to gain the services of a player with Leon's pedigree and ability. What he will bring to the team, not only in his own performances week by week, but his presence around the training paddock will undoubtedly have a massively positive affect on the whole senior squad. I hope we can support Leon's continued development during his time wearing the Blue n White hoops again as I'm sure he'll look continue his rugby journey in National Leagues again, sooner rather than later, which I know plenty of club's DOR's and Coaches will be pushing for also.  Welcome Home Son"
