Many of our members will remember John Rogers who joined Eccles RFC in the 1960’s, as a young, debonair old school stand off. Always immaculate, both on and off the pitch, he often had his leg pulled for leaving the pitch with his kit as clean as when he started. In the clubhouse it was always a double breasted blazer and a cigar. A charmer and a true character, John was 3XV captain and Social Secretary in 1967/68 and 3XV captain in 1973/74. In his sixties John was still playing golf on a Saturday morning at Ellesmere Golf Club and rugby in the afternoon. If Eccles hadn’t got a suitably mature team to play in, he’d nip to Trafford MV or Lymm.
Sadly, John passed away in April at Bolton Royal Hospital. News of his funeral arrangements have now reached us and John's former team mates and friends are invited to attend Howe Bridge Crematorium on Wednesday 26th July at 3pm.
