Congratulations to Eccles Ladies player Lucy Whailing-Mills on her selection for Lancashire U18s.
'Pebbles' only began playing touch rugby at Eccles with dad John Whailing in summer 2020 during the COVID lockdown and when restrictions allowed she started training with the women, quickly learning her trade, becoming one of our youngest senior squad members.
She played in the Greater Manchester Girls Network (GMGN) cluster fixtures, joining other teams to get game time and then made her debut for Eccles Ladies shortly after turning 17 in January, earning her title “ turnover queen”. When the opportunity to trial for Lancashire presented itself, Ladies Head Coach James Wright encouraged her to go for it and she earned her place on the U18 county squad.
Eccles Ladies Captain Rowanne Smalley commented "Pebbles has a history in Judo which means she’s a beast in contact, with great body management and super strong. When she gets on the pitch she tears it up. She’s a versatile player who has already learnt so much, and is constantly turning up with the right attitude wanting to be better. She’s a superstar and we just love her."
What an terrific role model, balancing study commitments with sporting dedication. Go for it Pebbles!
