Eccles RFC are delighted to announce the return of Tom Coe to its Senior squad. Coey departed Eccles in 2016 to join Sedgley Park and quickly established himself as a first team hooker and back row with the National League 2 club until joining Level 5 North Premier outfit Rossendale this season. With various playing opportunites open to him, Tom has decided to return to the club he loves. Subject to medical the Gorton Street fatihful will hopefully see him in the Navy and White hoops this Saturday!
Speaking on the recruitment, DOR Sam Simpson said "I’m delighted to bring Coey back to the club. He was a tremendous young talent who was hungry to develop, always challenging himself to improve back when I coached him a few years ago and since then he’s gained some invaluable experiences which no doubt he will of added to his personal game as well as his understanding of how the game should be played.
At 27 Coey still has lots to offer as a player himself and knows exactly club's ambitions and what it wants to achieve in the next few years, I believe it’s this challenge, alongside the fantastic experiences he had in his previous spell at Eccles, that’s brought Tom back to the club . I’m hoping young #Homegrown Hooker’s Fin Cox and Daniel Aspinall can make the most of having Coey around as his expertise can help both of them take their game to the next level."
Tom responded "I’m a Hooker and Back Row with a demanding job as a builder. After leaving Eccles a boy, when I played alongside an extremely talented and experienced pack, I’m now returning to Eccles as a man with a lot of rugby experiences myself and I’m hoping I can help the club's young group to develop and achieve, similar to what others did for me back then. I’m pleased to be back at the best family-driven club in the north west and I’m looking forward to playing with old mates and encouraging and driving the new young talent that's in the team at the moment, so we fullfil their potenital and acheive what the club are capable of."
