Congratulations to our DoR Sam Simpson, Coaches Kev Raynor and Andrew Selby, Club Captain Tom Coe and the 1XV players who have secured promotion by winning the Counties 2 Lancashire & Cheshire Division on Saturday with a record of P21 W17 L4. Although they still have a final fixture to play, away at Liverpool Collegiate on Saturday 1st April away thier 85-point lead at the top of the table is now unassailable. Well done lads. Labore Omnia Florent!
Following the conclusion of the League campaign the Eccles 1XV will be looking to retain the Lancashire Plate Trophy they won last May when they face Tyldesley in the Semi Final, Saturday 8th April.
The Mens 2XV, captained by Matt Parkinson have also enjoyed a successful season in NW Div 2 North, playing great rugby but narrowly missing out on promotion to Preston Grasshoppers and Fylde who finished just above them. The Eccles 2s beat league winners Fylde 59-12 on the opening day of the season but a loss to Chorley and a draw with Ormskirk proved to be decisive in the run in. The 2XV will face Chorley or Leigh in the second round of the cup on Sat 1st April.
Congratulations must also go to the 3XV, Captained by John Whailing who surpassed all their targets this season and won thier League in style with just 2 defeats. Considering this new team was only formed last September, the 3XV deserve great credit for thier commitment througout the season. The 3s will face Oldershaw 2XV in the cup on Saturday 1st April at home and will be promoted to the NW Div 4 East next season. A brand new Eccles Mens 4XV will take their place to compete in NW Div 5 East.
