Cleaning up the brickwork inside the clubhouse has given us the opportunity of a closer look at the old shield, displayed high on the chimney breast. We believe it was made by Dougy Orr an engineer who completed his career at Kellogg’s in Trafford Park, where he got the finishing touches applied in their paint shop. Doug was the bugler for the 4XV team after-match ceremonies and we believe the shield was displayed on the smoke stained chimney in the old clubhouse in the 1970s, before it was transfered into the new clubhouse in 1984.

If you have any stories and photos of the interior of the original clubhouse (a pair of former WW2 Army huts installed at Gorton Street in the summer of 1948) please share them. Email info@ecclesrfc.org.uk
