Congratulations to George Arnold, former Eccles RFC Mini & Junior player and Manchester Grammar School Student who has been awarded a Bursary Contract and will join the Sale Sharks Senior Academy next season.

George, U18 Prop, is one of 11 players identified as the brightest rugby talents in the North West region, with four players from Greater Manchester, three from Lancashire, three from the Isle of Man and one from Wales representing the Sharks’ biggest ever intake of academy players. Amongst his fellow signings are England under 18s Tristan Woodman, Charlie Wardle and fellow MGS team mate Ben Motamed.

George hopes to study Mechanical Engineering at the university of Exeter and the Bursary Contract, will allow him to play for Sharks alongside his studies, whilst the club tracks his development over the next three years.

George joined Eccles at 8 years old in 2011 where his love for rugby developed and his skills progressed. He was selected for the Sharks DPP programme at U14 and went on to receive representative honours for Cheshire through his school and play at Twickenham in the National Schools Cup Final. Alongside these formative experiences George went on tour with his Eccles team to France in May 2018.

In conversation about his future plans with Eccles Chairman Chris, George expressed his appreciation and recognition of his coaches at Eccles RFC  “I’d like to thank James Bushby, Steve Brennan, Wade Dutton and in particular Adam Stevens who was a great mentor to me, for the time they devoted over the years to my rugby development at Eccles. Their coaching and encouragement gave me my passion for the game and shaped the player and the person I’ve become".

Everyone at Eccles RFC wishes you every success George and we look forward to seeing you back at the club doing some guest coaching with our next generation of homegrown talents (and your former coaches look forward to you buying them a pint).
