This Saturday we're looking forward to hosting the Rotterdamse Studenten Rugby Club RSRC for an International Preseason Friendly. Rugby, Refreshments and a warm welcome awaits our thirsty guests from Rotterdam. Kick off 3pm. Our Men's Rugby Social Secretary, Mr Samuel Long, has made arrangements for the post match entertainment so it's sure to be a Goede nacht for the tourists.
REPORT: Our guests from Rotterdam started the match with sustained attacking from the kick off, putting the Eccles men under pressure inside their 22 for the opening 10 mins but were unable to take any points. The deadlock was eventually broken on 15 mins with a well worked break from the back resulting in an Eccles try from Tim Balogun. Tries from Sam Long, Gavin Ackers Johnson, Ryley Thornton, Will Parkinson, Ryan Evans and Leon Simpson followed. New recruits and several former homegrown colts made good contributions. Both teams had squads of approx 30 players and the game was a productive and enjoyable preseason friendly for the Eccles men who were captained by Matt Parkinson. Two late tries from RSRC were well earned and deserved by our visitors. (HT 24-0) FT 60-12. Thanks to Referee Mr Daniel Taylor. A great day was had by all and the post match entertainment was exuberant! We wish our new Dutch friends a safe return journey home and good luck for the new season.
