In the early days, playing at Monton (near the Blue Bell, Monton Green) and Barton (near the Rock House Hotel, Peel Green Road) until the outbreak of the First World War, Eccles Rugby Football Club played in Bottle Green Jerseys with a blue shield.
In August 1914 war was declared and rugby fixtures in Lancashire were abandoned. Pals battalions were raised, the club’s members enlisted and many did not return from the trenches to play again. When the club reformed after the war navy and white hoops were adopted.
110 years on, as a tribute to our origins, we reintroduced green as our senior 'change' jersey this season and many of our supporters will have already seen it worn by our Mens 1XV.
The distinctive Eccles 'Peel Green' shirt features a unique, retrospective design with a keyhole collar and we are now offering the opportunity to get your hands on a replica, made by O'Neills from the same fabric but in a slightly loser fit than the tight-fit senior match jersey. The shirts are available in kids (£32) and adult (£45) sizes. You can also have your choice of number on the back at no extra cost.
